A new task force for a faster, better I-40

Earlier this summer, at SAS headquarters in Cary, RTA and NCDOT held the second regional BRT/FAST/SMART team meeting as part of our ongoing cooperative I-40 Regional Partnership initiative. (You can download the slides, attendee list, and more from the July meeting via this recent blog post).

During the meeting, NCDOT and RTA announced the upcoming activation of an I-40 Rapid, Scalable Implementation Task Force. This focused group will explore and recommend strategic goals for I-40 across the I-40 Regional Partnership area; i.e., from the I-40/I-85 junction in central Orange County to the I-40/I-95 junction in southern Johnston County.

The first I-40 task force meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 7, from 2 pm to 4 pm, hosted by the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina.  Space is limited, so RSVP if you and/or a colleague can participate.

The 2026 RTA business plan includes driving consensus and identifying funding for comprehensive I-40 mobility and safety improvements. The task force is a direct action the regional business community is advancing with our partners to further those objectives. The task force will focus on aligning “super low cost”, “low cost”, and “higher cost” recommendations with potential funding opportunities and stakeholder priorities.

If your schedule permits, I encourage you and/or a colleague to RSVP for the first task force meeting, which will be held in just over a month.

N.B.:  While a transportation background certainly would not hurt, you do not need a particular experience or education to participate – only an interest and willingness to contribute, learn, and focus together.

I hope you can participate. Please let me know if you have questions about the task force.

Joe
