440 and Wade — we are getting there

The important I-440/Blue Ridge/Wade reconstruction project is making significant progress.
Earlier this month, NCDOT achieved substantial completion of a portion of the interchange area from I-440 west to Wade freeway west. Traffic heading west on 440 toward Lenovo Center, RDU Airport, and Durham now has both a dedicated off-ramp lane along I-440 as well as an extended merge lane along the Wade freeway.
More progress will be coming in the weeks ahead to Wade Avenue, 440, and Blue Ridge.
In fact, a section of I-440 west close to I-40 and US 1/64 will also see a new lane open during the next few days. There will be temporary lane closures and lane shifts this weekend to prepare for the new lane.
Kudos to NCDOT for achieving this milestone for this very important project.
