Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition — the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

NCDOT improves I-40 ramps at NC 54 – Raleigh/Cary
This week marks the substantial completion of the first improvement for the section of I-40 between Raleigh and Cary since the completion of the strategic widening that RTA pushed a decade ago. NCDOT has just expanded both of the off-ramps for the NC 54 interchange (exit 290). As noted in this week’s Thursday Thoughts at 3 blog, the off-ramps have been widened, and storage lengths lengthened, which will help those traveling on I-40 as well as travelers getting off onto NC 54. This is a very timely and cost-effective improvement that will relieve congestion and improve safety –and just in time for the fair.

I-40 Partnership annual meeting — 11 years of success
Yesterday we had our 11th annual meeting of the I-40 Regional Partnership, a cooperative initiative of the Regional Transportation Alliance business coalition in concert with NCDOT and other partners. We heard from a number of speakers with NCDOT, as well as presentations from GoTriangle and RTA Leadership Team member Wetherill Engineering. The regional business community applauds the North Carolina Department of Transportation and their many partners for constantly working to improve multimodal travel on I-40 and other freeways. BRT Opportunity Series this Thursday — final RSVP deadline
RTA and two of our founding member chambers, the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro, will hold our first ever BRT Opportunity Series this coming Thursday, Oct. 24. This event, which will highlight plans and strategies for accelerating bus rapid transit, features speakers from our market and state, as well as some of the presenters from our 2019 Leadership Briefing and Tour to Virginia, along with several of our RTA member engineering firms.
