RTA Member Briefing: August 1

RTA Brunch Reaches Venue Capacity, Waitlist Activated

The RTA Annual Transportation Brunch, which will be held next Friday, August 8, has reached venue capacity and we have suspended registration. We have activated a waitlist for RTA members, guests, and partners who have not yet registered and are interested in attending the event. Please email Jacob Rigg to be placed on the event waitlist; we will contact people on the waitlist early next week if additional seats become available.

The regional business community looks forward to receiving, discussing, and advancing the results of the ongoing FAST transit study at the event. The study presentation will include recommendations to connect our region’s 10 proposed BRT corridors together via transit priority infrastructure, as well as priority linkages to RTP and RDU Airport. The event will also provide a brief, timely update on construction of the first Wake BRT corridor, along Raleigh’s New Bern Avenue – the first BRT corridor in the Carolinas.

An excellent BRT meeting

Earlier this week, RTA Leadership Team member SAS hosted the second RTA-NCDOT BRT/FAST/SMART Team meeting, an initiative of the I-40 Regional Partnership. BRT stands for bus rapid transit, buses resembling trains, and building roads for transit — and the more than 50 public and private sector participants focused on accelerating each of those priorities and objectives.

During the meeting, NCDOT and RTA announced a new I-40 Rapid, Scalable Implementation task force. The purpose of the group will be to explore and recommend strategic goals for I-40 over the next 3-6 months, and then align these recommendations with anticipated funding opportunities, stakeholder priorities, and long-term regional growth. Please email Jacob Rigg if you would like to participate in the task force.

Learn more about the event, including links to the full agenda (including speaker names) as well as the complete presentation deck, in this week’s blog.

Have a great weekend, and let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA executive director
