Thanks to our colleagues at the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, a member of the RTA Regional Leadership Team, I had the chance to attend the Future of Travel Mobility event in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, hosted by the US Travel Association at Union Station* in Washington, DC.
The program content was extensive and engaging. I heard from the CEOs of several companies. One was Robert Isom with American Airlines, who noted that business travel is coming back, but it’s not all the way back yet, particularly for larger companies. Chrissy Taylor with Enterprise Holdings focused on the need to “spread out the (EV) charging love” as she spoke to sustainability, electrification, and innovation.
You may also enjoy this short video of autonomous travel by Cruise that was shown at the event.

* I actually traveled to Washington, D.C. from our beloved Triangle region by car, using the I-95 and I-395 express lanes to bypass much, but not all, of the rush hour traffic in northern Virginia. More to come on the potential for express shoulder lanes and/or transit priority shoulders in our region in future posts, as well as the opportunity that future S-line improvements will make for rail travel from Raleigh to points north.
