Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

Nimble is better: e-scooters return to the capital city
Three electric scooter companies are now operating in Raleigh through new partnerships with the city. The agreements with e-scooter providers Spin, Bolt, and Lime include a coordinated effort to establish shared parking corrals to help keep scooters placed in appropriate locations. Spin and Bolt also operate in the City of Durham, and Lime operates at NC State University. Shared scooters, along with bicycle share, are important micro-mobility options that can complement and enhance our growing regional transit system.

Faster is better: let’s accelerate projects, reduce risk
A regional business leadership group is, in many ways, no different than any other business – we seek to drive certainty in needed investments and policies for success. This week’s RTA blog highlights how moving faster reduces risk. Whether it is completing 540, advancing commuter rail, accelerating the Triangle bikeway, developing a regionwide bus rapid transit network on our roadways, or a host of other priorities, faster is simply better – because it reduces uncertainty, and because it makes people’s lives better sooner.

Simpler is better: RTA continues to push access user fee
This week, the NC Chamber hosted an outstanding conversation with the Destination 2030 Coalition on the proposed vehicle registration-based access user fee concept to modernize state highway funding. We received terrific comments and excellent questions about the approach, and look forward to continued dialogue next week during a legislative commission meeting on highway funding. We continue to elevate an access user fee approach; we will support any framework to modernize funding that is fair, effective, and resilient.
