Faster is Better

Businesses value certainty.

There are a host of reasons for this; a primary reason is that volatility creates distraction, while certainty allows the business to focus on the business.

Or, to put it another way:  certainty reduces risk.

A regional business leadership group is, in many ways, no different than any other business. We are seeking to drive certainty in the needed investments and policies so that this region can be successful.

In a prior blog, I emphasized that accelerating mobility is the “way to go.” This fits our “let’s get moving” mantra that we have had since the inception of the organization — and it also aligns with our mission of “delivering business leadership to get our region moving faster.”

In a nutshell — faster is better, because faster reduces risk.

Whether we are speaking of completing 540, advancing commuter rail, accelerating the Triangle bikeway, developing a regionwide bus rapid transit network on our streets and freeways, or a host of other priorities — faster is simply better.

Because it reduces uncertainty.

Because it gets us to where we want to go.

Because it makes people’s lives better, sooner.

You will hear more of this “faster is better” framework — which is a natural complement to our 2021 advocacy themes of equity, recovery, and opportunity — at our RTA Transportation Breakfast next month, and throughout our communications in 2021 and beyond.

I hope to see you at The Umstead on July 9 — if not sooner.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
