Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition — the voice of the regional business community on transportation.
Last day to sign-up for the virtual RTA breakfast event
The registration period closes this evening for the annual RTA Transportation Breakfast event. Presented by the Research Triangle Foundation and our regional Leadership Team and sponsored by Stantec, Credit Suisse, and Martin Marietta, the event will provide updates on two ongoing transit studies and include an executive business discussion on the importance of these and other transit enhancements.
One or more breakfast registrations are included with your membership – please sign up by today’s deadline. Additional registrations for members are $95; non-members can join us for $125. As we note in this week’s blog, neither of the studies that we will discuss at the breakfast are designed to provide “the answer”; rather they will hopefully point the direction to our multimodal future.
Traffic is still down, but it is coming back
Rush hour has become only a memory for 4+ months since the pandemic began. While traffic is increasing, Raleigh and Cary are still experiencing the largest proportional reduction in arterial traffic volumes among metro areas studied by NCDOT. The job clusters in our metropolitan area seem to be more focused on industries and professions that lend themselves to stay-at-home work compared to other areas in the state. Kevin Lacy, our state traffic engineer, notes that the Triangle has a larger share of people still working remotely. Even when traffic does return, we expect to be better than most other metro areas as this study found.
Thank you for your membership in the RTA business coalition — “see” you next week at the breakfast!
Let’s get moving,
Joe
