RDU wins grant to keep us moving
This week, the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority received nearly $25 million for core infrastructure upgrades from an important federal grant program. RDU was one of only 30 projects in the United States selected for the grant, and the only one in North Carolina. The regional business community wrote a letter of support to USDOT earlier this year in support of federal funding for this project, and we are very pleased to see RDU win this grant. Read more in this week’s blog.
Airport achieves fourscore destinations
RDU has now reached a new, all-time high of 80 nonstop destinations. The newest flight will be a Breeze Airways flight to Ogdensburg, New York, a city that borders the province of Ontario, Canada, located about an hour or so south of Ottawa, the Canadian national capital.
“RDU now offers more nonstop choices than ever before for leisure and business travel,” said Tammie Hall-Roberts, chair of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board. With this new destination announcement, our hometown international airport now has 66 domestic and 14 international destination cities.
The regional business community is committed to ensuring that there will be more destinations to come, and that means ensuring that our region makes timely, essential, and ongoing investments in airside capacity at the airport, so that RDU and our region can continue to grow successfully. We will have more to say about this at our RTA annual meeting on Friday, January 23, 2026 from 11 am – 2 pm — please mark your calendar.
A FAST brunch is almost here, and almost full. Will you be there?
July is more than halfway done — which means the RTA annual transportation brunch is almost here. Be sure that you or your colleagues(s) have registered for the RTA event on August 8. We will be releasing the results of the FAST transit study, and jumpstarting our advocacy for a dramatically accelerated investment program in regional transit priority infrastructure. One or more seats are included with your RTA membership — but space is limited, so please reach out to Alea Morales to claim your included RTA member tickets, and/or click here to purchase additional seats. I hope to see you there.
Have a great weekend, and let’s get moving,
Joe Milazzo II, PE
