RDU wins grant to keep us moving through the airport

RTA members,

This week, the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority received nearly $25 million for core infrastructure upgrades from the federal “Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development” (BUILD) grant program. RDU was one of only 30 projects in the United States selected for the grant, and the only one in North Carolina.

The regional business community wrote a letter of support to USDOT earlier this year in support of federal funding for this project, and we are very pleased to see RDU win this grant.

As we wrote in our note to USDOT, “Our organization’s highest strategic priority is advancing needed transportation infrastructure at RDU that will provide safe and efficient mobility while our airport and region grows. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of RDU’s application for BUILD grant funding, as this project will deliver a range of benefits related to safety, economic competitiveness, state of good repair, environmental sustainability and quality of life in our region.”

As I mentioned in a recent WRAL interview on this excellent grant win by RDU, “it’s critical for the region, it’s critical for economic development, it’s critical for the business community — for the airport to be successful, people need to be able to get to it.”

Kudos to our friends at the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority for their focused, proactive approach of investing in needed infrastructure at RDU that all of us will benefit from, both now and in the future.
