RTA Member Briefing: March 28

RTA members and partners,

Earlier today a few members of RTA leadership had an opportunity to meet with Congresswoman Deborah Ross about key priorities for our market, including intercity rail, bus rapid transit, and the overall funding and inflationary climate. In addition, I have spoken with several elected officials and representatives from both major parties, to media outlets, at transportation board meetings, and with key partners about a host of projects including accelerating the US 1 / Capital Boulevard multimodal freeway, the needed expansion of BRT across our market including freeway BRT along I-40 and I-885, and the continued success and importance of RDU.

While transportation projects will always take “forever”, the regional business community is committed to championing these and other priorities so that they will take “less forever” and fully meet the needs of our business community as our region grows.

In April we will commence a major, membership-wide push to accelerate the Capital Boulevard freeway. In addition, we will be engaged in public outreach on advancing transit priority infrastructure on major corridors. Look for follow-up communications from RTA beginning early next month. If you have any questions about any RTA priorities or initiatives, please feel free to reach out to either myself or membership operations coordinator Jacob Rigg.

Thank you as always for your membership.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA executive director
