Let’s go to Mexico

The first Aeromexico flight to RDU landed from Mexico City (MEX) on the first day of July 2024.

“This flight is a life changer for families who will be able to get closer, sooner,” said Claudia Velasco, Consul-General of Mexico in Raleigh. “We are neighbors, economic partners and friends.”

To be clear, RDU already had a nonstop flight to Mexico, with nonstop service to Cancun on Saturdays on JetBlue. However, this flight is a daily flight to the Mexican capital and Aeromexico’s largest hub.

RDU CEO Michael Landguth said that the “launch of Mexico City service connects the Raleigh-Durham market with a valuable business hub, vibrant leisure destination and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world.”

He also said that “I’m happy to report that the inbound flight that’s coming in, is 100% full, and it’s going out full as well. So that’s a great story to tell that we worked very hard for several years to try to get this service into the market.”

Travelers from North Carolina can book flights daily from RDU to visit the 1.4-mile high city of Mexico City via Aeromexico.

This has been a great month to expand international service out of our hometown international airport, with Lufthansa launching service from RDU to Frankfurt, Germany and Copa Airlines commencing nonstop service to Panama City, Panama in June, and now Aeromexico beginning service to the Mexican capital earlier this week.

We now have 10 international nonstop flights out of Raleigh-Durham International. Kudos to our friends at RTA Leadership Team member RDU as they work to expand both air service and aviation infrastructure at the fastest growing airport in America.

Let’s get moving,
Joe
