Member Briefing: December 16

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

RDU approves lease for bicycle trails next to Umstead State Park

RDU and the Wake County government have reached a lease deal over airport-controlled land near Interstate 40 that will create a new county park.

As a result of the renewable 10-year lease, the county will invest more than $3 million to improve bicycle trails within the 155 acres of land, while the Airport Authority will receive more than $5 million in lease payments from the County over the next decade. The lease will go into effect January 1. We are pleased to see this positive result and congratulate both Wake County and Raleigh/Durham Airport Authority leadership for their sustained efforts in creating this solution.

It’s time to send the RDU support letter

We have seen a good response this year for campaign for federal funding for a new runway at RDU.

As we note in this week’s blog, we are asking each of our member companies to take 10 minutes this week and send your letter, if you have not already done so this year.

We have greatly simplified the support letter template – if you would, please take some time during the next few days and send your note. Let me or Jacob know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your ongoing dedication to regional business leadership on mobility.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
RTA Executive Director
