More investments in transit
On Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend a recognition event for a $2 million federal investment in the future RTP GoTriangle regional transit center.
It was heartwarming to hear from several leaders including Congresswoman Ross, Congresswoman Valerie Foushee, GoTriangle chair Mary-Ann Baldwin, GoTriangle CEO Brian Smith, and Travis Crayton with the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina. All spoke of the importance of making investments in multimodal travel options.
With the growth of our regional frequent network, as noted in a prior post, this region has already made very solid investments in frequent service across the region. Our primary transit need over the next several years is to develop the high performance, attractive, dedicated transit priority infrastructure to ensure that our enhanced transit network is reliable, efficient, and visible.
RTA continues to support, and periodically help fund, various transit planning studies to accelerate the development of transit options for our market. While we will continue to support those studies from time to time, our focus now is on the timely completion of the various corridor infrastructure upgrades themselves. We need those advancing, to create results for our broader region — those who are here now, as well as those who will move or be born here.
Let’s get moving,
Joe
