RTA members and partners,
Today, Thursday, September 25, is the first anniversary of the 540 / Southern Wake Freeway, also known as phase one of the Complete 540 toll road by the NC Turnpike Authority. RTA began our advocacy to accelerate the western Wake freeway in 2003, and our focus on that project and the southern Wake freeway has continued for the past two decades plus.
The 540 Southern Wake Freeway is 18 miles long, with six lanes (three each way) and a 70 MPH speed limit throughout. Meanwhile the 540 / Eastern Wake Freeway (a/k/a Complete 540 phase two) is well under construction, with a fall 2028 expected completion date.
Please share the following information with your colleagues, clients and associates about NC QuickPass transponders…
As we have noted in recent blogs last month and last year, you can save 50% of tolls forever if you get a transponder. It can be a portable hard case, a stickertag, or even a “virtual” transponder where you simply register your North Carolina license plate with the Turnpike Authority in advance. Each of the physical transponder options can be found in this link. In all cases you have to provide funds for a starting pre-paid toll balance (e.g., $10), but those will apply directly to the tolls you incur.
To activate the “virtual” transponder option: Click on this link and then scroll down to the “NC Only account”; you can register one or more of your own vehicles and start saving on tolls right away. You can also do so in person at participating private license plate agencies; click on this map for locations, filtering the map by License Plate Agencies.
Go to ncquickpass.com to learn more, sign-up, and starting saving on tolls. Thank you to the NC Turnpike Authority board and staff for continuing to deliver premium quality, cost-effective and accelerated mobility solutions for the metropolitan Triangle and Charlotte regions.
Let’s get moving,
