The RTA June 2024 QuickTour to Richmond, Va. was an opportunity to visit a nearby peer city for quick, intentional field visits of a freeway cap, BRT, and other multimodal infrastructure. More than 70 attendees participated in the tour in June 2024.
The regional business community believes that the June 2024 RTA QuickTour to Richmond, Va. will inform conversations on:
- Multimodal freeway caps
- BRT (bus rapid transit; “buses resembling trains”)
- Walkable, transit-oriented development
- Zero fare transit policy
- Intercity passenger rail
- Urban trails
- Accelerating and scaling community development
TOUR AGENDA
RTA June 2024 QuickTour – summary working agenda
- 9:30 am – Arrival and registration in Richmond, Virginia
- 10:00 am – RTA tour program begins / welcome, introductions, overview
- 10:30 am – Freeway cap overview
- 11:15 am – Field visit to Kanawha Plaza
- 12:30 pm – Working lunch, including BRT, TOD, intercity rail
- 2:00 pm – Field visit to Pulse BRT
- 3:15 pm – Closing reception, closing remarks, next steps
- by 4 pm – Formal RTA tour ends, depart Richmond
- after reception: optional bonus walking tour of T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge
The program agenda above does not include travel time from North Carolina to Richmond. Travel to Virginia is not included in the tour.
NOTE: The tour will involve a few walking segments; rarely will those be longer than 15 minutes in duration.
