From central North Carolina to central Texas
Kudos to RTA Regional Leadership Team member the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce for an outstanding intercity visit to Austin, Texas. Central Texas continues to be a worthy competitor to the Research Triangle area. See this week’s blog for more information.
We can give more thoughts on more BRT
In last week’s briefing, we mentioned this coming Tuesday at 11:30 am is an online meeting you can participate in for a new BRT visioning plan for Durham County that will complement the central Durham BRT project. Even if you cannot attend that meeting, you can still participate in an survey that will be open until the end of the month, via this link. RTA will continue to push for the advancement of our now 10+ regional BRT corridors along our street, arterial, and freeway network — including a potential “tactical” BRT or two.
Necessary RDU construction is beginning soon. Let’s get ready.
Needed infrastructure construction at our growing hometown international airport is getting ready to move into full swing. As Raleigh/Durham Airport Authority CEO Michael Landguth noted in a recent RDU news release, we will all need to pack our patience when we travel to the airport for travel or to pick up colleagues and loved ones.
RDU will spend $2.5 billion on capital projects over the next 10 years, including expanding Terminal 2, adding more parking, improving the roadway system and building a new runway. Visitors to terminal 2 will soon see a temporary wall in the north end of the terminal as part of an effort to expand ticketing and checkpoint areas and upgrade the terminal bag claim system.
You can learn more about the upcoming investments via this link. Meanwhile, here are a few links to help make your air travel journey a little easier: Terminal Directory, ParkRDU parking reservations. We will focus on all of this in more detail at our RTA 24th annual meeting (register here; one or more tickets are included with your membership).
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of regional business leadership on transportation. Have a great weekend, everyone.
Let’s get moving,
Joe
