RTA Members,
Happy new year to each of you. As we begin 2025 together, we highlight some accomplishments from our wonderful and growing RDU Airport over the past year, and our organization’s ongoing focus on infrastructure at Raleigh/Durham International.
The fastest-growing large airport in America is right down the road — and continues to be our focus in 2025
In 2024, Raleigh/Durham International experienced its busiest year ever, with around 15 million passengers served. With more than 70 nonstop destinations — to locales as close as Charlotte and as far as Frankfurt, Germany — RDU travelers are now more connected than ever.
RTA’s top strategic priority for 2025 will continue to be identifying a sustainable business model for RDU infrastructure. RDU was named the fastest-growing top 50 airport in the country in 2024, and the air service needs of this region are increasing as well, including the associated landside/accessibility infrastructure as well as airside infrastructure including terminal expansions. You can learn more about RDU in this week’s blog; we will highlight our continued focus on RDU in more detail later this month at our RTA Annual Meeting on January 24 — and throughout the year.
You don’t need to make a resolution to attend the RTA annual meeting later this month — your ticket is already included
Thank you to our newest RTA members and to those who have been with us for years or even more than two decades. We are pleased to have all of you with us for our 23rd RTA Annual Meeting, which will be held from 11 am to 2 pm on January 24 at the Embassy Suites Raleigh/Durham/Research Triangle Park in Cary. One or more tickets are included with your RTA membership – so be sure to register to secure your seat. Please contact RTA membership operations coordinator Jacob Rigg to register for the event or with any questions about event logistics, and reach out to me anytime.
NCDOT posts year in review video
Our partners at the NC Department of Transportation have compiled an excellent summary of a momentous and impactful year — from Helene recovery efforts, to the opening of the Complete 540 southern Wake freeway, to the largest highway grant in the Department’s history ($242m for the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge replacement in Wilmington). I encourage you to take a few minutes and peruse the successes of our vital statewide partner.
Let’s get moving,
Joe Milazzo II, PE
