RTA Member Briefing: May 17

RTA Transit Acceleration Committee — Online Meeting, One Month Away

RTA will hold a one hour, online-only “RTA transit acceleration committee” meeting on Monday, June 17 — one month from today — from 11 am until noon. The focus of this meeting will be brief remarks on a regional transit priorities from several transit partners, including next steps for construction of the New Bern BRT corridor in Raleigh, an overview of the region’s first extended transit signal priority corridor in Cary, as well as updates on BRT in Chapel Hill and Durham.

We will leave plenty of time for members of the regional business community to offer perspectives, ask our partners questions, and learn how we can support these and other multimodal efforts. Registration is now open for all RTA members; you can have multiple representatives from your company register; and there is no cost to attend.

RDU shines the light on easier parking

Your travels to the RDU Central and RDU Premier parking deck locations just became much easier. The RDU Airport Authority, an RTA Regional Leadership Team member, has just installed an advanced parking guidance system in the primary parking deck between the airport terminals. You simply follow the signs and overhead lights to arrive at an open space. You can also retrieve your lost car using the app — no more fears of remembering what level you parked at.

I have used the system multiple times and it works as advertised. See more details in this week’s blog. Remember to also book your parking in advance for further stress reduction prior to your next flight.

RTA QuickTour — More attendees, more sponsors

We now have more than 30 registrations for next month’s RTA QuickTour in Richmond, Va., presented by the RTA Regional Leadership Team, with more coming in each week. RTA members can sign up for only $175.

On Tuesday, June 18th, RTA and our partners will explore the existing freeway cap over Richmond’s downtown expressway and learn about a proposed cap over I-95, visit the Pulse BRT and adjacent land uses, hear about current zero fare transit policy, and engage with local and regional leaders from both central Virginia and central North Carolina.

View the tour webpage for the agenda, pricing, and sponsorship opportunities. Kudos to Williams Mullen, Kimley-Horn, and the Town of Cary  for being sponsors of the tour. You can secure your spot on the RTA QuickTour, and/or become a sponsor of the event, by registering at this link: www.letsgetmoving.org/RTAQuickTour.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Let’s get moving,
Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA executive director
