New Bern Avenue BRT Groundbreaking means a new day in Raleigh…

November 7th, 2023 saw the groundbreaking for the New Bern Avenue BRT corridor, the first of several BRT corridors to be built in Raleigh, and first BRT in the Carolinas. This celebration also marked the beginning of a regional rapid transit system for the Triangle. The New Bern Avenue corridor is expected to be completed in 2025. Read more in this week’s blog.

… And a new approved 2024 plan of work for RTA …

At this week’s quarterly RTA Leadership Team, the group reviewed and approved the 2024 RTA action plan that was distributed previously to all RTA members via a prior weekly briefing. The plan retains the simplified, one page format with five core focus areas, and reflects both ongoing and upcoming mobility initiatives of tactical and strategic importance to the regional business community.

… Which leads us to a new RTA transit committee

At the RTA Regional Leadership Team, we also formally launched the creation of an RTA transit committee. This committee will focus on ways the business community can support and inform BRT construction, planning, and outreach for current and potential BRT corridors across the Triangle — including the New Bern Avenue BRT which just had its groundbreaking this week. The committee will also focus on supporting and informing the regional FAST study initiative that will link the BRT corridors together and to RDU Airport.

The RTA transit committee is open to all RTA members. Some skills and focuses that committee members might possess and share could include real estate, human resources, marketing and communications, risk management, etc. Please let Jacob Rigg know if you or a member of your team would like to participate in the committee or learn more.
