Member Briefing: November 19, 2020

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition — the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

Relive our fastest annual meeting ever
Today marked the 19th annual meeting of the RTA business coalition. The first online annual meeting — and shortest event of any kind in our history — was still quite effective. We heard from our entire chairs council on their perspectives on mobility opportunities now and into 2021, and outlined several of the accomplishments in our 2020 annual report. If you attended the event and want to relive the most powerful 30 minutes of business leadership you will receive all year or if you missed the event as an RTA member send us an email and we will get you a special link to a recording of the event. In addition, a TBJ article this afternoon highlighted several of the top RTA priorities discussed during the meeting.

RDU remains our top priority into 2021
As we noted during today’s RTA 19th annual meeting, sustainable funding for RDU remains the highest priority for our organization — although what form that funding might look like remains uncertain. We are committed to working with our friends at Raleigh-Durham International Airport to refresh our RTA RDU AID task force recommendations from our 18th annual meeting earlier this year in light of the new reality facing commercial aviation. You can also gain a perspective on how attracting new flights has changed with the newest episode of RDU’s “The Fly Angle” podcast, featuring Kenneth Strickland, RDU Director of Air Service Development.

Wake BRT virtual open house this evening
This region will have 5 bus rapid transit lines constructed and open within this decade — 4 of which will be located within Wake County, centered on Downtown Raleigh. The City of Raleigh has activated a very effective Wake BRT Virtual Open House live through the end of the month — including a live Q&A session this evening. You can also participate in three different engagement or survey opportunities, including Station Design Visual Preference, New Bern BRT corridor Public Art, and a general open comment form for three of the corridors (east/New Bern, south/Wilmington St, west/Western Blvd/Cary Towne).

Thank you to all who joined us today, and thank you to everyone for being a part of the regional business community’s voice for transportation.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
