New Nonstop Destinations At RDU

RTA members and partners,
Our highest strategic priority continues to be developing a sustainable business model at RDU, and it is not hard to see why. Last year, RDU had 70 nonstop destinations from our hometown international airport, served by 17 airlines. As 2025 continues we will be up to 79 destinations, including 15 international ones, and 19 airlines.
This is enviable, remarkable growth — it speaks to the prosperity and vibrancy of our market — and it requires continued investment in infrastructure at RDU, which is certainly a challenge in a revenue constrained, high inflation environment.
For this week’s blog, we highlight several new and retained flights, including the WestJet flight between Calgary and RDU. A communication from the airline noted, “As a proudly Canadian airline, WestJet is committed to ensuring air travel remains accessible, affordable and safe, as we continue to fly where our guests want to go.” In addition, American Airlines is launching a nonstop flight to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic to RDU, and Spirit Airlines is adding several new routes including Nashville.
As I mentioned at RDU’s board meeting earlier this month, RDU is essential to the success and prosperity of our region, and RDU’s professional staff consistently delivers a world-class air travel experience.
Kudos to RDU for continuing to operate an outstanding airport that airlines want to serve, and thank you to the companies across our extended market who attract the talent and tourism which makes this region flourish.
Let’s get moving,
Joe Milazzo II, PE
