The groundbreakings continue: Welcome RUS Bus!

RTA members and partners,

Fall 2023 has become the season of groundbreaking for major infrastructure in the metropolitan Triangle. Earlier in October we had the ceremonial groundbreaking for  a new primary runway at RDU, and next week we will have the groundbreaking for the New Bern Avenue BRT.

In addition, the RUS (Raleigh Union Station) Bus terminal just had its formal groundbreaking in Downtown Raleigh. This $40m project, which will open its transit portions by 2025, will create a convenient connection between intercity passenger rail and selected bus services.

Located adjacent to the existing Raleigh Union Station train terminal that Amtrak now serves, the new bus facility will be built to accommodate future projects including BRT and future regional passenger rail service.

GoTriangle’s Board of Trustees Chair Brenda Howerton said she is proud that GoTriangle staff and partners prioritized the development of a “people-centered project” that will help people easily get where they need to go.

“It’s been said before that ‘transportation is to a region, what the nervous system is to the human body,’” she said. “It makes every element of a city or region function effectively by helping people to commute. Multimodal transportation hubs are critical in providing inter- and intra-city mobility while moving towards seamless travel.”

Let’s get moving,
Joe
