Member Briefing: February 24

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

RSVP for Tuesday’s RTA General Membership Meeting to support RDU’s runway …

This coming Tuesday, February 28, will have our first in-person RTA General Membership Meeting of 2023. We will gather at 4:30 pm at the airport for conversation and energy, and then head to the public hearing conference room around 5 pm to offer comments of support. Please email RTA membership operations coordinator Jacob Rigg if you can join many of your fellow RTA members for Tuesday’s RTA gathering at RDU Airport (if you have not already done so).

… Then, RSVP for next month’s RTA field visit to 540 …

As we noted in a member briefing earlier this month, we will have an in-person RTA General Membership gathering on Thursday, March 23rd for a field visit to the under construction 540 Turnpike in southern Wake County.  We expect to visit two different interchange and corridor locations for this vital multimodal turnpike freeway that opens next year.

Thank you to RTA Leadership Team member Wake Technical Community College for serving as our host for the field visit, and thank you to the NC Turnpike Authority and NCDOT for the partnership. Please email RTA membership operations coordinator Jacob Rigg if you can attend the 540 field visit.

… And, mark your calendar for our annual RTA Breakfast — with a focus on regionwide BRT

We had a great RTA annual meeting last month, and we are already looking forward to our next major event, our 2023 RTA Transportation Breakfast, which will be held on Friday, July 21. This year’s event will be held at the Westin Raleigh/Durham Airport Hotel near I-540 in the Brier Creek area (note this is a new location for the event, and a new facility overall).

The focus for our 2023 event will be the accelerated implementation of regional BRT, which stands for “buses resembling trains” as well as “bus rapid transit.” While our event hotel is not even open to guests yet, registration for the 2023 breakfast is well underway, and all RTA members have one or more tickets included with their membership. If you would like to sponsor this year’s RTA Breakfast, or if you have any questions about the event including tickets, please contact Jacob Rigg, RTA membership operations coordinator, at jacob@letsgetmoving.org or 919.664.7062.

This week’s blog post provides more information and context on our past and upcoming 2023 events and gatherings.

Thank you for your membership and your support of regional business leadership for mobility.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
RTA Executive Director
