Member Briefing: September 29, 2022

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

Outstanding Regional Transit Awareness Day

We had an outstanding turnout of more than 75 business, elected, transit, and community leaders at our first-ever RTA Regional Transit Awareness Day yesterday. A special thanks to our partners at Chapel Hill Transit, GoDurham, GoRaleigh, GoCary, GoTriangle, and the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina who provided meeting space, food, buses, drivers, etc. to make the event a success. Kudos also to the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce and the Raleigh Chamber for outstanding preparation and logistical help for the day. Here are some links to media coverage:  1, 2, 3.

Attendees fostered and strengthened key relationships across our region, and there were a number of productive and purposeful conversations during the event. I believe positive movement to accelerate several transit solutions will result, including rail, bus, and micromobility options for our growing region. More to come.

Jumpstarting North Carolina’s electric vehicle (EV) future

The Federal Highway Administration has approved North Carolina’s electric vehicle infrastructure deployment plan, and NCDOT will receive more than $100m in federal funding from the Congressional bipartisan infrastructure law as as result. This is an exciting, important, and needed development on the road to a cleaner, more sustainable mobility future, and we offer congratulations to NCDOT for receiving this approval. More in this week’s blog.

I-40 Regional Partnership to hold 14th annual meeting
The I-40 Regional Partnership provides an ongoing focus on Interstate 40 in order to maintain and enhance its viability for travel and commerce, and to improve the travel experience on I-40 and core reliever/alternate routes.

RTA and NCDOT have jointly coordinated the I-40 Regional Partnership since 2009. On Thursday, October 13, at 2 pm, at the Joint Force Headquarters in west Raleigh, the Partnership will hold our 14th annual meeting. If you are interested in attending the 90 minute I-40 Partnership annual meeting, please email Jacob Rigg directly; you can view the agenda here.

Thank you for your ongoing dedication to regional business leadership on mobility.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
RTA Executive Director
