Member Briefing: February 25, 2022

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation. For this week, our Thursday Thoughts at 3 blog post, repeated below, serves as our briefing to our members.

Let’s fund RDU’s runway: Cooperative letter writing campaign begins for federal support

We had an outstanding RTA General Membership meeting on Wednesday, with more than 60 RTA members and partners in attendance during the online conversation.

This week’s meeting formally commences our letter writing campaign to secure significantly increased federal funding support to replace and relocate the primary runway at RDU. This initiative is in concert with The Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina and the Triangle-J Council of Governments, along with several of our member chambers of commerce.

Our chair Harold Hicks with RTI International requested that all RTA members consider writing a letter of support this spring. To help us plan and coordinate our shared efforts, we are asking all RTA members to please fill out this short form by next Friday, March 4thwww.letsgetmoving.org/RDUletter.

To be clear — we are not asking our members to write a letter by next Friday. We are only asking you to let us know, ideally by next Friday, whether and when you could send a letter this spring.

Thank you to Red Hat, the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, and The Umstead Hotel and Spa for jumpstarting this campaign by writing and submitting excellent support letters. You can download a simplified letter template from the RTA RDU AID task force page:  www.letsgetmoving.org/RDUAID .

Thank you also to our outstanding RTA RDU AID task force members for their ongoing dedication to elevating the importance of infrastructure at RDU — and for identifying potential solutions to fund it.

RDU Airport is an essential asset, and sustainable funding for RDU continues to be our highest organizational priority. RDU staff and board are vital partners for our future prosperity, and we are pleased to support this effort.

Thank you, as always, for your commitment to sustained regional business leadership on mobility.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
