Member Briefing: June 5, 2020

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition — the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

Zero fare can create a shared travel experience and advance equity
Our nation is in need of change. Policy change often requires a change in culture, which emerges from increased understanding, empathy, and willingness to address uncomfortable realities — particularly about the plight of some members in our society. I believe that one of the best ways to develop this shared understanding is through greater shared experiences.

In this week’s blog, I discuss how further expanding zero fare transit for everyone in our regionand enhancing transit overallcan significantly increase the number of shared experiences by bringing more people together. A shared travel experience creates more opportunities to engage, to learn, to listen, and to—literally and figuratively—travel the journey together.

This week represents our 75th consecutive weekly “Thursday Thoughts at 3” blog; as always, I thank you for reading, I welcome your feedback, and appreciate your membership and friendship.

Our region’s—and America’s—best days are still ahead of us. This is the turbulent, uncomfortable time now where the foundation for lasting, needed change begins.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
