Member Briefing: April 24, 2020

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition — the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

The End of the Beginning
To say that the coronavirus has had an unfortunate impact on health and the economy is obviously an understatement. While we cannot control what has happened, and what continues to happen, we can look for opportunities and lessons learned. Our partners at NCDOT have identified several such opportunities from a construction standpoint, and we are the beneficiaries, beginning this weekend on several major freeway projects. More in this week’s Thursday blog, entitled, “ The End of the Beginning.”

The FIRST shall be second
The Future Investment Resources for Sustainable Transportation commission met this morning in Raleigh. That group was formed by NCDOT to identify potential long-term solutions for funding transportation infrastructure. RTA offered written comments for the FIRST Commission hearing this morning about our ongoing support for an access-based approach to stabilize funding. Our public comments are available here; the NCDOT FIRST Commission website is here.

Tri-MAP forum with Congressman Price
The RTA Steering Committee meets with our regional partners three times a year for the Triangle Mobility Action Partnership forum coordinated by RTA. All RTA members are invited to participate in our next meeting that will be held virtually on Wednesday, May 6, at 9:30 a.m. Congressman David Price is our keynote speaker for the town hall-style forum. RSVP directly to Natalie.

RTA is a strategic, regional leadership investment. Thank you for your membership!

Let’s get moving,

Joe
