A New Year’s “Resolution”

As the week and decade drew to a close, I decided to take my family to the Outer Banks, to see the Wright Brothers National Memorial. We are all proud that North Carolina is “First in Flight” and we are blessed that the Triangle is a little over 3 hours away from where aviation transportation began.
The visitors center was recently reopened in fall 2018, so if you haven’t been there in a while — or have never been — it is well worth your time.
There is an overall theme of overcoming obstacles through perseverance throughout the exhibits at the Memorial. Given the challenges in creating transportation infrastructure of any kind in the present age, the lessons are worth noting and internalizing.
In my view, the inscription on the memorial tower, perched on the top of Big Kill Devil Hill, says it all:
“In commemoration of the conquest of the air by the brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright, conceived by genius, achieved by dauntless resolution and unconquerable faith.”
Inspired by the memorial inscription, our new year’s “resolution” — and our 2020 RTA theme for the year — is “dauntless resolution”. This will be a very appropriate complement to our 2019 RTA theme of courage amidst uncertainty and opportunity.
Just as the Wright Brothers did more than a century ago, let us have faith together in the future, and in the triumph of the human spirit.
A successful and prosperous 2020 to our members and partners.
