RTA members and state partners “sweep” I-40

After the Carolina Hurricanes swept the NY Islanders in the second round of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs last week, the RTA business coalition conducted a sweep of its own — a litter sweep on I-40.

On May 4, more than 25 representatives of the RTA business coalition, The Umstead Hotel & Spa, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol joined together for a litter pick up along the I-40 / Harrison Ave. on-ramps and off-ramps.

RTA Leadership Team Members Duke Energy, First Citizens Bank, STV, Inc., Summit Engineering, and VHB were represented, along with The Umstead Hotel & Spa who also hosted the group.

The joint clean-up effort between the regional business community and our state transportation and law enforcement partners was a complement to the statewide Spring Litter Sweep initiative, but just the beginning of a collaborative effort to improve the appearance and safety of our roadways.

One of RTA’s objectives is to enhance the overall regional travel experience for all those who live, visit, and pass through our market. Keeping our roadways clear is a critical element of ensuring safe and sightly travel, along with enhanced information and signage, and landscaping and aesthetics — all of which RTA is pleased to be working on in concert with our transportation and tourism partners.

Thank you to RTA Regional Travel Experience Chair Jim Beley, general manager of the Umstead Hotel, for leading the regional business community’s efforts on this topic!

Litter Sweep NC will return this fall, and RTA will continue to support ongoing and future collaborative efforts for cleaner, safer roadways!

Let’s get moving,
