RTA Statement on Future Transit Solutions

RTA members,

Thank you for your ongoing support of effective multimodal transportation across our region.

Today we are releasing a statement, in concert with our founding chambers of commerce from Durham and Chapel Hill-Carrboro, affirming our ongoing focus on accelerating multimodal solutions, particularly in the western Triangle, in light of the discontinuation of the light rail project.

The regional business community remains committed to working with our partners to advance frequent transit options for the entire Triangle.

Look for additional information and next steps in upcoming “Thursday Thoughts at 3” blogs (letsgetmoving.org/Th3)* and other RTA communications.

Let’s get moving,
Joe

Joint Statement Supporting Regional Transportation

Having successfully led the Durham (2011) and Orange (2012) transit referenda, we remain committed to multi-modal, regional transportation solutions that work for the people and employers of our Triangle region.

Together, our organizations represent more than 1,300 enterprises that employ more than 100,000 talented community members. We know that the continued success of our region relies on substantial investments in the transit and transportation infrastructure that connects our businesses and communities.

Our Chambers of Commerce and the Regional Transportation Alliance support enhanced regional transit, including high-capacity, effective transit connections between Durham and Chapel Hill. Our support has not changed as a result of the discontinuation of the light rail project.

We look forward to continuing to work with our partners to accelerate the opening of enhanced, frequent transit connections between Durham, Chapel Hill, and nearby destinations, including Research Triangle Park, RDU Airport, Wake County, and Chatham County.
