Member Briefing: April 26, 2019

Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

A one hour litter sweep opportunity for RTA members
Please join us at The Umstead Hotel & Spa next Saturday, May 4, at 9 a.m., for a litter sweep in partnership with the NC State Highway Patrol. We will help clean up the interchange area around I-40/Harrison Ave. for about an hour in support of the statewide NCDOT Litter Sweep initiative. We are pleased to work with our state and local partners to increase awareness about the importance of cleaner roadways – many benefits of which are highlighted in this week’s Thursday Thoughts at 3 blog. Please let us know if you can join us for the brief cleanup effort.

ParkRDU Express launches on Wednesday
Starting this coming Wednesday, May 1st, we will have a new “trunk-to-terminal” intermediate parking option at RDU, called ParkRDU Express, located near the observation deck. The pricing is less expensive than either Premier or Central, but higher than Economy — this is a mid-range parking product that is a welcome addition for travelers. You can book online for all options to reserve your space, and often to save money as well. Directions to ParkRDU Express:  Pass Terminal 1, turn right toward ParkEconomy 4, travel under the taxiway tunnel, turn right, and the lot will be on your left. Shuttles run around every 5 minutes to pick you up right from your vehicle to take you to either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.

Less than 3 months to RTA 2019 Breakfast
We are less than three months away from welcoming several members of the Virgin Hyperloop One team to the Triangle region to discuss the potential of a “hyperloop” within the Triangle. The RTA 2019 Transportation Breakfast event will be held at The Umstead Hotel on Friday, July 12, and will also feature NCDOT Chief Deputy Secretary David Howard. In addition, we will present hyperloop pre-feasibility analysis information being compiled by RTA Leadership Team member AECOM at the event.  You have one or more tickets included with your membership — go ahead and register now as we expect to sell out again this year. Please contact Natalie with any questions.  Thank you for your investment in the Triangle’s mobility future through your membership in RTA!

Let’s get moving,

Joe
