RTA members and partners,
I was pleased to have WRAL news reach out to us a few weeks ago about traffic trouble spots in our beloved Triangle.
The story ran earlier this week, you can read it here and/or watch the video here.
Brian Shrader was the reporter. He noted several of the biggest traffic headaches mentioned by station viewers, including:
- Stop-and-go traffic along Interstate 40 between Raleigh and Durham
- The ongoing widening project on I-440 in west Raleigh
- Traffic merging between I-885 and the NC 147 Durham Freeway interchange
I was quoted in the story talking about the business community’s support for BRT, saying “It is a great solution, provides flexibility, also provides that transit priority so people can rely on it.” The written story overview also noted our focus on connecting those BRT corridors together.
The online story also mentioned that a big focus for RTA is pushing for improvements at RDU, noting that the new runway and expansion of Terminal 2 are major steps to accommodate growing numbers of passengers.
I noted that “Airport expansion never ends, because this market never stops growing.” All RTA members can learn more at our upcoming annual meeting, The State of Mobility, which will include The State of RDU this year. Please get with our colleague Alea Morales to claim your included tickets. You can contact Jacob Rigg for additional information, including a confirmation of the number of tickets at your current membership level and/or sponsorship or membership upgrade questions.
Thank you to WRAL and all of our media partners for getting the word out on the current state of mobility.
Let’s get moving,
Joe
