RTA has an ongoing regional campaign to support federal funding to replace, relocate, and lengthen the primary runway (5L-32R) at RDU.
Action. RTA members and partners can join the campaign by sending a support letter to USDOT, requesting federal funding to replace the primary runway at RDU International Airport.

Partners. RTA and our member chambers are working in concert with the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina and the Central Pines Regional Council on this ongoing effort.
Background. Identifying sustainable funding for essential growth at RDU Airport is the top transportation priority of the regional business community.
The current campaign for a new, longer primary runway is a follow-up to a RTA task force that examined capital funding challenges at RDU. The 2021 RTA task force report highlighted the need for the replacement and relocation of the primary runway.
