Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.

Mark your calendar — or just go ahead and register — for upcoming RTA meetings and events
RTA’s next major event will be our 21st annual meeting — which we will hold in two parts, on consecutive Tuesdays in January 2023.

On Tuesday, January 24th, 2023, from 11 am to noon, we will hold Part 1 / online only of our RTA 21st Annual Meeting.  Exactly one week later, on Tuesday, January 31st, 2023, from 11 am to 2 pm, we will hold Part 2 / in person only of the event. For registration, sponsorship, and event information for the RTA State of Mobility 2023 event, please visit our event webpage. One or more tickets for both parts of the RTA 21st Annual Meeting, The State of Mobility 2023, are included in your membership. However, you will only need to register once to attend both parts. Please contact Jacob via email at jacob@letsgetmoving.org with any questions.

Looking further ahead, we will have an RTA General Membership Meeting in April 2023, where we will have a field visit to the active 540 construction site. Details are still in the works but the target date is set for Wednesday, April 19, 2023 with the next day, Thursday, April 20, as a backup rain date. You can pre register for the April 2023 RTA General Membership meeting now.

Looking back, and ahead, from a great RTA transit day
Last month RTA held our first Regional Transit Awareness Day. Over 75 elected officials, business leaders and media outlets joined together to traverse the Triangle and explore the existing public transit bus and train routes. This week’s blog provides a bit more information about the day, including links to photos and media.

Duke Energy is hosting a storm preparedness event
As our region and state recovers from the impact of Hurricane Ian from late September, we have an opportunity to understand more about preparations for the next storm. Longtime RTA Gold and RTA Regional Leadership Team member Duke Energy is hosting a storm response discussion for customers and other interested stakeholders on November 10.

Storm managers, engineers, meteorologists, and grid investment specialists will talk about their work to prepare for severe weather. Participants will also learn about recent improvements Duke Energy has made to strengthen the power grid and reduce outages from severe weather events. There is no cost to attend this Duke Energy event in southern Raleigh at their Distribution Control Center on November 10. Just be sure to sign-up by the Nov 9 registration deadline.
