Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition – the voice of the regional business community on transportation.
RTA breakfast event launches regional conversation on future of RDU
Thank you to the more than 150 members and partners who attended today’s 2021 RTA Transportation Breakfast, presented by the Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina. RTA released a new report from the RDU AID task force and heard a spirited discussion from task force members on implications and potential next steps. Attendees at the largest in-person RTA event in nearly 18 months also enjoyed a fantastic presentation from Scott McCartney of The Wall Street Journal on the national landscape of air travel. The conversation today won’t be the last time the regional business community elevates this issue, which remains our top priority as an organization, and is a vital part of an Accelerated Metropolitan Mobility strategy for this market. More to come.
Connect with the study on the proposed Triangle Bikeway
RTA supports the accelerated completion of the proposed Triangle Bikeway parallel to Interstate 40 and NC 54 . This corridor can provide a streamlined opportunity for bicyclists — including e-bikes — as well as joggers and walkers to traverse the region efficiently. The proposed bikeway would create multimodal usage of the I-40 freeway corridor without compromising its future ability to expand, since it would largely be located along the edge of the freeway right-of-way. Having just returned from a National Parks trip a few weeks ago, including the Boulder, Co area, I can tell you that a bikeway like that along the US 36 freeway in Colorado would be a welcome addition to our mobility landscape. The Triangle Bikeway study team has activated a survey on the project; the response link will be open until next Friday.
Mark your calendars: RTA Tour to South Florida — winter 2022
RTA announced today that our next RTA Leadership Briefing and Tour will be held in early 2022, on January 26-28, in concert with lead partner sponsor GoTriangle. The event will include tours and briefings of commuter rail as well as complementary transit, highway, land use, and other mobility innovations this coming winter. Please mark your calendars now; look for more information from Natalie about registration during the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can visit the commuter rail website from RTA Regional Leadership Team member GoTriangle here.
Thank you for your ongoing support of business leadership on regional mobility! It was great seeing so many of you today, and we look forward to connecting at our 20th Annual Meeting on Thursday, November 4, if not well before then at another RTA event.
Let’s get moving,
Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA Executive Director
