Action amidst uncertainty

As we enter the final quarter of the year, we all have an opportunity to reflect a bit, as well as look ahead. This gives each of us a chance to see where we were, how far we have come, what obstacles we have faced or overcome, and take an assessment of the landscape going forward.
While we can and will dive into the details of exactly that over the next several weeks and months, for this week’s post I want to keep our focus on our overall annual themes — and given that 2020 has been very unusual, I want to start by going back a year, to January 2019.
In 2019, our theme for the year was “courage amidst uncertainty and opportunity.” At the time, we were focused on growth, technology change, and other disruptors to mobility.
You might think that that theme would have also applied nicely for what has been an unprecedented 2020. While that is true — and perhaps quite prescient — my sense is that our actual 2020 theme, announced in January of this year, “dauntless resolution”, was even more appropriate.
For 2021, our advocacy themes are equity, recovery, and opportunity, and they will also incorporate our current and prior themes from 2019, because we will certainly need courage, and also dauntless resolution, to successfully and effectively move forward through the fog of our immediate future.
We will get there, together. Please plan to journey with us, including our 19th Annual Meeting on November 19th. It will not take much of your time, but it will provide a bit more clarity on where the regional business community sees our region going, and leading.
