Here is a brief weekly update from the RTA business coalition — the voice of the regional business community on transportation.
Reminder: Complete RDU survey on business travel
Earlier this month we noted that our partners at RDU continue to share new updates on the impact of coronavirus on the airport and across the industry. If your company engages in corporate air travel, please take this online survey to help inform RDU’s air service reinstatement and expansion efforts. The CEO of Nashville’s Airport — the guest keynote for our RTA RDU Business Briefing exactly one year ago this week — appears on the cover of their region’s business journal today; it is clear that the impacts are national. We asked RDU to give our members until this coming Monday, May 18, so you have through the weekend or on Monday to complete the survey. A reminder that this is not a public survey; it is for RDU’s stakeholder partners only.
Let’s apply our work-from-home experience to save time
As many of us have worked from home the better part of the last two months, we have seen that not only can we “get by” with remote meetings, we can be even more productive in many cases. Also as a result of our changed work environment, we have experienced a dearth of peak hour traffic congestion. In this recent blog, I discuss how we might maintain some of these efficiency and productivity benefits when we return to the office by aligning virtual and in-person meetings with purpose and time of day. I welcome your thoughts on this and other aspects of regional travel post-coronavirus.
Dynamic Left Turn intersection passes 3 month milestone
America’s first dynamic left turn intersection approach – at the corner of Cary Parkway and Tryon Road in southwestern Cary – passed its three month mark earlier this week. My sense is that compliance seems to be improving as familiarity with this pilot treatment increases over time. Traffic is down everywhere during the pandemic, which has meant that the “off-peak” travel time savings that the DLTi affords motorists are currently happening 24 hours a day.
Business strength, perspective, and focus help get our region moving faster. Thank you for your leadership through the RTA!
Let’s get moving,
Joe
