A speedier travel solution opens in northern Wake County – let’s visit and learn together
US 401 north is a major connector for Wake and Franklin counties, connecting downtown Raleigh with North Raleigh, the southeast Wake Forest area, Rolesville and Louisburg. (US 401 is also Capital Boulevard between downtown Raleigh and the Mini City area of Raleigh). NCDOT recently completed a series of multimodal improvements that increased capacity and reduced travel delay along a ~ 3 mile stretch of the corridor. Among those is the first “continuous flow intersection” in the eastern half of North Carolina, an improvement that is already dramatically improving travel along 401 during peak periods.

In addition, you can visit these improvements in northern Wake County next month during our first RTA field visit of fall 2026, on Monday, October 12, in concert with our friends at NCDOT Division 5. I-40 Partnership Annual Meeting
Speaking of improving travel, RTA members and partners will gather next month at the 18th annual meeting of the I-40 Regional Partnership at SAS Institute in Cary on Thursday afternoon, October 22. The I-40 Partnership is a public-private initiative coordinated by NCDOT and RTA since 2009, with an ongoing focus on improving the operation of Interstate 40, including access to and from the Interstate.
All RTA member companies can attend; however, we request that only one representative per private sector member company sign up initially as space is limited. Register via this link.
