RTA Business Plan for 2026-27 Approved

Today, Friday, July 10, the RTA Steering Committee approved the RTA 2026-27 business plan. While the plan is not completely different from our 2025-26 business plan — transportation projects don’t move that quickly — there are some notable changes in both what the plan conveys and how we present the information. For example, the plan now includes a few bullets of our sense of the overall landscape, which informs the rest of our advocacy priorities.

We believe the presentation of information is more intuitive, and will better serve as a convenient, quick reference for both our current and future RTA members and partners. You can directly download the 2026-27 plan here, and learn more about the plan in this week’s blog.

GoRaleigh 1 is number one

In prior blogs, we have highlighted the growth of the GoRaleigh high frequency network, as the largest in the state and the Carolinas, and the metro Triangle’s frequent network as the third largest in the southeast.

Today, we recognize GoRaleigh Route 1 — the most frequent non-university-based transit route in North Carolina — as the highest ridership transit route in the state.

GoRaleigh 1, which travels along Capital Boulevard from downtown to North Raleigh, provides 10-minute all-day weekday frequency from 6 am to 8 pm, and 15 minute frequency for much of the day on weekends. That frequent service has translated into excellent ridership, more than 1,000,000 in the past fiscal year, making it the highest ridership fixed route service in North Carolina.

Het Patel, transit director for the City, noted that “GoRaleigh continues to add frequency to our network and build out routes to service the residents of Raleigh and throughout Wake County…. We are so proud of the team that made this happen.”

Thank you for reading, and for your membership and partnership.

Let’s get moving,
