One of our newest air carriers is already our largest, by one important metric
RDU International remains the second largest airport in North Carolina in terms of both flights and nonstop cities, behind only Charlotte. Our hometown RDU is the state’s largest airport in terms of total number of air carriers.
One of our newest airlines is Breeze Airways. Four years ago they had zero flights here. Today, they offer the most nonstop destinations from RDU. In fact, if Breeze were the only carrier at Raleigh/Durham International, RDU would still have the second-most number of nonstop destinations of any airport in North Carolina.
The regional business community thanks both the professional leadership and the Authority board for advancing the air service offerings for our market. Read more in this week’s blog.
Blue Ridge Parkway
This Memorial Day weekend we honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Those who died while serving in our armed forces gave all for the country they loved. And there is a lot to love about America, including its natural beauty.
Here in North Carolina, America’s most military-friendly state, we have stunning beauty from mountain peaks to whitecaps at the ocean. One of the best ways to see the former is via the Blue Ridge Parkway. I had a chance to briefly visit a nearby segment of the Blue Ridge Parkway while in Boone attending a conference I was presenting at on business leadership and transportation.
The Parkway is America’s longest linear park, and almost always among the most visited portions of the National Park Service. If you get a chance to visit, either this Memorial Day weekend or in the future, I hope you will the drive, appreciate one of the beautiful overlooks that are a wonderful example of our nation’s splendor, and pause for a moment to thank those who have ensured our liberty and freedom to journey and celebrate our country.
Thank you for your membership in RTA. Have a safe and blessed Memorial Day weekend.
Let’s get moving.
Joe
