Metropolitan Rapid Transit — let’s get moving

RTA members and partners,

At today’s RTA 20th Annual Meeting, RTA members and partners elevated our focus on the acceleration of a Metropolitan Rapid Transit system for our region.

As we noted in last week’s blog, advancing sustainable funding for RDU remains our highest organizational priority. However, the regional business community can and will focus on multiple key areas of mobility and prosperity.

Earlier this fall, in a prior Thursday Thoughts at 3 blog and weekly member briefing, we mentioned our focus on accelerating the development of a metropolitan rapid transit system for our growing region. The advancement of this system is a central component of our overall accelerated metropolitan mobility strategy for the Triangle.

As we noted, our future metropolitan rapid transit system will have 7 complementary elements, from a regional commuter rail spine to a regionwide bus rapid transit network.

In late January, we are going to visit South Florida via our winter 2022 RTA Regional Leadership Tour, where we will learn about multiple forms of passenger rail, as well as bus rapid transit and other complementary elements of multimodal transportation, including the policies and leadership to make them a reality.

It was great seeing so many of you earlier today at our 20th annual meeting, and I hope to see you on the tour in January.

RTA members:  as you heard this afternoon from RTA tour honorary co-chair Mary-Ann Baldwin, Mayor of Raleigh, you can secure your seat for the South Florida tour today.

Let’s get moving,

Joe
