RTA weekly member briefing – Feb. 10, 2017
Here is a brief weekly update on some current activities, items of interest, and engagement opportunities of the RTA business coalition–feel free to share with your associates.
Southwest continues to expand at RDU Airport
Raleigh-Durham Airport will have a second nonstop flight to New Orleans via Southwest beginning this spring. Southwest is RDU’s third largest carrier in terms of enplaned passengers. RDU’s first direct flight to New Orleans via Allegiant Air will begin service next week on Feb 16. These new flights will build on the ongoing success at RDU, which just completed its best year ever in terms of passengers served.
I-40 Fortify ramp closure from Downtown Raleigh
The ramp to I-40 West from South Saunders Street–which is also US 70/401 and the primary access to/from Downtown Raleigh–will be closed this weekend for the ramp to be rebuilt. Two detour options are available via Rock Quarry Road or Hammond Road to I-40 West. Traffic shifts in the “Fortify” project area should be complete this summer.
A great recognition from a great member chamber
At last week’s Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber annual meeting, I accepted the chair’s award for public private partnership, with the citation highlighting several RTA initiatives including our Multimodal 54 partnership with the Chamber and GoTriangle, five years of the Bus On Shoulder System (BOSS) with GoTriangle and NCDOT, and our Air Service Advancement Project (ASAP) to support international service at RDU Airport. Chamber chair Anthony Pugliese with RTA Leadership Team member AICPA presented the award, noting our organization’s “let’s get moving” motto of impact.
It is an honor to work with each of our four founding chambers and every member chamber and company to advance regional mobility in the Triangle.
Let’s get moving,
Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA Executive Director
