Wake County gets a second major Interstate
This past week NCDOT installed new I-87 signage along the southeastern potions of the I-440 Beltline as well as the US 64 Knightdale bypass. The I-87 designation means that there is now a second major Interstate serving North Carolina’s capital city. We will continue to advocate for the accelerated improvement and designation of the entire I-87 corridor to Rocky Mount, Elizabeth City and coastal Virginia.
NC Turnpike refinances 540 – again – and saves even more money
The NC Turnpike Authority recently introduced free transponders to provide increased savings and convenience for travelers. Earlier this summer the Turnpike created a pathway for further savings by refinancing some of the debt associated with construction of the Triangle Expressway. The recent transaction provides net present value savings of $18 million – or more than $50 million in total savings when combined with a complementary transaction we discussed earlier this year. This further improves the financial picture for our top priority, Accelerate 540.
