RTA endorses Holly Springs Transportation Bond
The Regional Transportation Alliance business coalition has endorsed the 2018 Holly Springs Transportation Bond referendum. A successful vote on Nov. 6 (or via early voting) will provide $16 million to immediately fund a number of vital road, sidewalk, and bike lane projects and activate $24m in additional local funding to enable partnerships with NCDOT to further leverage funding resources. The bond will advance a host of key regional priorities including improvements to NC 55 bypass and Holly Springs Road (map, video). We urge all residents of Holly Springs to vote in favor of the bond. This fast-growing community in southern Wake County has been a leader in support for vital projects including the soon-to-be-extended 540, and it was an easy decision for the RTA Steering Committee to endorse the forward-thinking Holly Springs referendum.

Learn how NCDOT will bring Durham and Raleigh closer together
I-40 is the Triangle’s main street, and that freeway will continue to need a number of capacity improvements over time. However, one of the best ways to help I-40 will be to create a high-quality parallel alternate, and NCDOT has plans to do just that, by converting US 70 to a freeway between Durham (new I-885) and Raleigh, with the first improvements being new interchanges near Brier Creek. You can learn more about the plans at public meetings next week. RTA has highlighted the upgrade of US 70 as our top conversion to freeway priority for the entire region for several years. We successfully requested funding for the Brier Creek interchange through the prior statewide mobility fund, and we are pleased to see this project moving forward to construction in the next few years.

Air Canada traffic from RDU is up more than 40% since 2014, and the new Montreal flight makes 7 international destinations for RDU. London, Paris, Toronto, and now Montreal make for a great suite of global business centers that we can now reach nonstop from our region.
