Here is a brief weekly update on some items of interest and current activities of the RTA business coalition–feel free to share with your associates.

Updated Durham, Orange transit plans approved by four partners
Last week, revised transit plans for Durham and Orange counties were approved by the Durham and Orange boards of county commissioners, the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro metro planning board, and the GoTriangle board of trustees. The plans detail proposed transit investments through 2045 in the two counties and include information on the various modes, funding, financing, and implementation timings, as well as a cost-sharing agreement between the two counties. Durham County chair and GoTriangle board member Wendy Jacobs stated that, “This is a historic moment and a significant investment in the future prosperity of Durham, Orange and Wake counties,” and stated that the approval actions brings the region “one step closer to making this integrated regional transit system a reality.” GoTriangle has submitted the approved plans to the Federal Transit Administration as part of the application process to move the proposed light rail into engineering.

The new GoRaleigh Transit Station in downtown Raleigh became fully operational this week, concluding the last phase of the renovation project. Upgrades include an expanded terminal, new bathrooms, an upgraded kiosk, digital signage, and smart card pay stations. A summary and diagram of service operations in the station is available here.
