Here is a brief weekly update on some items of interest and current activities of the RTA business coalition–feel free to share with your associates.

City leaders celebrate opening of new GoRaleigh bus station
The grand opening celebration for GoRaleigh’s improved downtown transit bus terminal was held this week. Mayor Nancy McFarlane and other city leaders spoke to the importance of transit investment in our community and region, as did Steve Goldsmith with Red Hat, RTA Leadership Team member. Today, the station averages more than one bus per minute during peak hours; service will increase to more than a bus every 30 seconds when the Wake Transit plan is fully implemented during the next few years.

Transit-ready development explored for proposed light rail stations
I enjoyed a number of excellent presentations and remarks on the potential for transit-ready development along the proposed Durham-Orange corridor at an event this week. The session, coordinated by Triangle-J Council of Governments and hosted by the Research Triangle Park, included a variety of speakers from the public and private sectors ranging from developers to planners to economic developers.

RTA Blog: How the Triangle can leverage new transportation tech
Natalie Griffith, our RTA Marketing and Policy manager, recently participated in a symposium in Tennessee on advanced technologies in transportation. See her blog on key takeaways on several potential implications of connected and automated transportation for our market.

Thank you for your membership and commitment to improving regional transportation through regional business leadership!

Let’s get moving,
