Here is a brief weekly update on some items of interest and current activities of the RTA business coalition–feel free to share with your associates.

Also, I hope to see you at the RTA General Membership Meeting on Thursday morning at PNC Arena — RSVP here, and please let me know if you have any questions.

RDU Airport adds 10th airline
Virgin America is expanding to Raleigh-Durham International Airport with a new daily nonstop flight to San Francisco starting this October. The addition brings the total number of airlines serving RDU to 10. New nonstop service from RDU to Austin via Delta Airlines debuted this week, becoming RDU’s 48th nonstop destination. We are very pleased to this continued growth at our hometown international airport!

Mobile parking app will expand in Raleigh
The City of Raleigh plans to enable a mobile parking payment option at all downtown parking meters this summer. The ‘Passport Parking’  app was piloted along Hillsborough Street last year and has been available on NC State’s campus since 2015. Drivers will be able to pay for parking on their mobile phones, monitor time elapsed, and extend their parking time remotely (up to the allowed time limit). I believe this mobility technology will increase productivity by saving time, money, and aggravation for travelers and dramatically enhance the user experience. This app is being used in cities from Boston to Asheville to San Jose.

Triangle Bikeway concept along I-40 to be studied
The Capital Area MPO and Wake County will undergo a feasibility study for a bikeway along I-40 adjacent to Umstead State Park, between Wade Ave. and Airport Blvd. While still preliminary, the concept sounds similar to the US 36 Bikeway between Boulder and Denver which I visited last fall as part of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber’s inter-city trip.

Thank you for your support of business leadership advancing regional mobility!

Let’s get moving,
