Build NC initiative gets unanimous Senate approval
This week, NCDOT’s proposed Build NC initiative passed several state House and Senate committees, and was unanimously approved by the full Senate. Build NC provides an innovative statewide financing mechanism to fund projects that are not eligible for the federal bond program. The RTA Leadership Team has formally endorsed the Build NC initiative to accelerate local and regional projects with a stable increase of funding. Thank you to several of our members who have expressed their support to our elected partners over the last few days. The NC House is expected to vote on the bill this week.

A more viable travel option to Charlotte began this week
Travel to the Queen City just got easier, with NC By Train service a more viable option than ever for Triangle business travelers. A third Piedmont train per direction, representing the fourth daily train each way, began on Monday, with schedules for almost every existing train having been adjusted as a result. Key changes to note are that the first departure leaves 15 minutes earlier in both directions, and the last return trip now leaves Charlotte at 7p (instead of 5:15p). We applaud our state partners for advancing the corridor improvements needed to enhance intercity rail service. Going forward, RTA will push for metro express service with fewer stops for some trains.

Can you help sponsor RTA Breakfast with RDU and Delta Air Lines?
As a member benefit, each RTA membership level includes one or more tickets to both our breakfast and annual meeting. In addition, all upper membership levels from Bronze and higher receive recognition at each RTA event. If you would like to enhance your visibility at the Transportation Breakfast next month at The Umstead, you can serve as an event sponsor. Event sponsorship includes 8 more tickets and a reserved table, and helps defray the cost of the event. See this event flyer for details, including the list of RTA major investors and event sponsors, and please let me or Natalie know if you are interested in sponsoring.

Thank you for your investment in RTA to provide the sustained focus needed to accelerate enhanced regional mobility.

Let’s get moving,

Joe Milazzo II, PE
RTA Executive Director
