I-40/I-540 eastbound flyover ramp closed until July 5
The ramp going from I-40 East to I-540 East will be closed this weekend beginning tonight, Friday, June 30, until Wednesday morning, July 5. You can take the turnpike south (147) and then east (540) to bypass the closed flyover and access 540 towards North Raleigh without paying a toll through the weekend.

Express shoulder lanes for 540 funded and advance
NCDOT released the updated draft State Transportation Improvement Program this week, which designates the projected schedule and funding for transportation projects over the next 10 years. A major enhancement is $70 million in new state funding to construct the state’s first “managed” express shoulder lanes on I-540, a concept that RTA spearheaded. Express shoulder lanes can provide targeted, peak period freeway congestion relief at a fraction of the cost of a new express lane.

Business leaders will kick off RTA Breakfast
Our upcoming annual Transportation Breakfast will feature a panel of leaders including RTA freeways chair Pete Marino with Smith Anderson and RTA communications chair Kerry Grace Heckle with UNC REX who will discuss the business impact and importance of key transportation priorities. They will be followed by two keynote speakers: Jim Trogdon, NC Secretary of Transportation, and John Dillard with CSX Transportation, who will highlight how partnerships between the public and private sectors are advancing regional mobility and commerce. RSVP online here – the deadline is next Friday, July 7. Also, remember you have tickets included with your membership; call or email Natalie with questions.

Thank you for your investment in RTA to advance transportation solutions that grow our economy.

Let’s get moving,
